Arrival at SFO was uneventful, a long but trouble free flight during which we didn’t sleep but did eat pretty lousy food courtesy of Virgin Atlantic (get a grip Richard!) picked up a metallic grey Ford Mustang convertible from Alamo rental and off we went in the direction of Mendocino for our first overnight stop. As it was a holiday weekend traffic northward over the Golden Gate was heavier than normal, our journey up 101 was slowed by packs of tardy holiday makers heading up the coast. As a result we arrived at our lodgings very late and very tired. The staff had left out key and instructions on the porch so we headed straight to bed in our curiously wood panelled room.
