Leaving Moab and heading towards Salt Lake and Park City to see a tourist main street we happened upon a sign proclaiming Historic Helper! With a name like that you just have to drop in, and anyway we needed gas. So we pulled in and walked around a bit. To say Helper is a ghost town is premature, but it’s heading that way. People were lovely, went out of the way to speak to us almost. An air of desperation for new blood in the community, an episode of Twilight? Anyway here are some pics of Helper, which once had more bars, hookers and miners than you could shake a pick axe at every weekend in the early 1900’s.
Just found out that Butch Cassidy was a regular visitor and he robbed a bank in a nearby town. Robert Redford played Butch Cassidy in the film, later in the day we visited Park City where the Sundance Film Festival (organised by Robert Redford) takes place. Oh My !! Six degrees of separation? Serendipity ?
