Chicago to Oregon in 3 hours

More later , but we are here, have done customs and immigration at Chicago O’Hare where interestingly only 4 desks out of a possible 60 were manned and working. Now we know the US takes homeland security and customer service very seriously, so having 3 jumbo sized plane loads of visitors being handled by so few was not a great advertisement or welcome to the USA. Having survived this ordeal we found our hire car, but even that had its moments with the shuttle bus failing to stop outside arrivals to pick up AVIS customers until we ran into the road to flag it down on fly past 3 the trip commences. Des Moines to Kansas City and the legendary turnpike on I70 so around 450 miles since we started. Photo opportunity is rare on interstates but some of the rest stops provide some interest as we head into wilder west areas
